• an armchair by the fire
• an expression of unreasonable cheer
• a mug of cold-pressed coffee
• a truly impressive collection of hickeys, accented by a well-bitten lip that only recently stopped bleeding.

He laughs, head lolling against his shoulder.

"'Sprobably for the best."

"Mhm. Wouldn't want to waste your precious energy."

Matt kisses his shoulder.

"Not when there are so many worthwhile applications ..."

[wearsthecoats]

"Indeed."

He sets Matt down gently and climbs in after him, arranging a fold of blanket between them so he can go cold and still snuggle without inflicting his temperature on Matt.

Matt is supremely amenable to this, and blanketsnuggles immediately.

Perfect. Sherlock relaxes into the blankets with a sigh.

He shifts to rest a little closer, marking his fading warmth with sleepy unconcern.

He presses a slightly chilly kiss to Matt's forehead.

[semicharmed]

"Mmmm," he replies, eyes closing.

"I like you."

[wearsthecoats]

"I think I like you, too," he says, a little surprised.

[semicharmed]

A soft huff of laughter.

"Were you on the fence about it?"

[wearsthecoats]

"I hadn't really given it much thought," he admits.

"I don't like a lot of people."

[semicharmed]

"Understandable," he yawns.

"I try to get along, though."

[wearsthecoats]

"Mm?" he inquires, curious. "You don't like people either? Or you don't naturally but try to?"

[semicharmed]

That one requires some extra cogitation. Matt opens his eyes.

"I ... I like most people," he says.

"But I see that there are a lot of reasons not to. Maybe I'm wary of people, more than I like or dislike them. Even when I like them."

Thoughtfully: "Not a bad way to do it, I don't think."

[semicharmed]

His lips quirk.

"I'm trying to make it work for me."

[wearsthecoats]

"Good luck," he offers.

[semicharmed]

Matt sighs pleasantly, letting his eyes shut again.

"There's a distinct possibility I may actually enter REM for a little bit here," he murmurs.

[wearsthecoats]

He chuckles. "Should I wake you up if it looks like you're going to sleep the night?"

[semicharmed]

"Oh God yes," he snorts.

"I promised you one more round. I'm not a quitter."

[wearsthecoats]

"Good boy," he says semi-affectionately, pressing a kiss to Matt's forehead.

[semicharmed]

... Yeah. He's into that.

It doesn't register in more than a sleepy shiver, however.


Matt does fall asleep. But it takes a little while, it's not for long, and it's uneasy when he does. Nothing major, just a bit of restlessness.

Eventually he yawns and gives a stretch.

"MmmokayI'mup."

For which news he receives a peck on the cheek in return.

"Hi."

He grins.
